Hi scouts, its Martin here. As part of exploring and encouraging scouts to get involved with more and more adventurous activities I went along to the branch sailing weekend down at Sandringham on the weekend, along the way finishing my sailing activity guide qualifications. The event was great fun, with a mixture of sailing activities and other fun beach activities. Scouts participating didn't need to be gun sailors, just be willing to participate and have fun (as with any other scouting event).
There next sailing event will be in about a month time at Hazlewood pondage (a warm lake in Gippsland warmed by the power station). Any scout interesting in learning to sail please talk to Martin, the weekend would include an overnight camp joining with other scout groups from Melbourne. You would learn how to sail a dingy safely and make lots of new friends.
Over the last couple of years, I have sussed out and have gained some qualifications in:
- Bushwalking
- Canoe/kayaking
- Cross country skiing
- Sailing
- Rock climbing
Asking scouts who are interested in these activities has resulted in a deafening silence. Unless you tell me you are interested I must take it as a "no". As a troop we could focus on canoing, bushwalking, sailing or any of these.
So come on scouts - get involved and lets do more outdoor activities.
